Holiday Weight Gain is Not the Problem

We are officially in holiday season! I love this time of year but it can also be a super stressful season too. Between all the extra shopping, cooking, eating, or committments, it's likely at least one of those is adding more to your already busy plate (pun not intended:).

Most women I talk to are concerned about gaining weight around the holidays. I get it. There's so many indulgences around! And for some, taking even one bite of a sugary treat can lead to feeling completely out of control around food.

I'm going to say something that might shock you, though. Holiday weight gain is not the problem. It's actually very normal to put on a few extra pounds in the colder months, too. Our bodies are designed to do that! I want you to enjoy the food and drinks that usually only come around once a year - without the stress. Knowing how to enjoy these moments without spiraling is the key though.

One thing you can add into your routine to help control those cravings or to manage stress around the holidays or regarding weight gain is to WALK. That's right - it's really that simple. You might be thinking, but it's really cold where I live so that's not realistic for me. I say - then get creative! Can you walk around your house, or up and down the stairs for 5 minutes? Can you bundle up and choose a warmer time of day to go outside? It doesn't have to be fast paced or for a long time, either. In fact, doing 5-10 minute increments has been proven to be just as beneficial (if not more) as walking for 30-60 minutes at a time. Not only are you allowing yourself a mental break, but you're reenergizing your body in a healthy way, instead of reaching for caffeine or a quick sugar fix!

So, what do you say? Will you commit to walking a few extra minutes every day for the next 30 days? Start with just 5 minutes and go from there! If you do, I guarantee it will make a difference in managing food cravings, your stress levels and even how your clothes fit!
