Reality TV is a guilty pleasure of mine but I never get a chance to watch it. In fact, I would save it for weekends or special nights I had to myself, but it would always be accompanied by a glass of wine.
One of my goals this year is to add in more walking throughout the day.
Now, I know those two sentences don't exactly align, but hear me out....
As someone who works from home, it's very easy to start my day at my desk and not get up for hours. Can you relate? Not only does that have a negative impact on our eyes and back, but it definitely messes with our mood and energy levels too.
I've also cut out alcohol temporarily, so there goes my "Real Housewives a la vino" nights....
So, what I decided to do was take my "guilty pleasure" and combine it with a healthy habit. How do I do this? I make a point to take short breaks throughout the day to walk on the treadmill. Walking is the only time I allow myself to catch up on my Bravo shows. Even if it's just for 5 minutes, that mental break is beneficial to my mind and body. My stress - mentally and physically - have improved so much just from implementing this into my life. Even if I miss a day, my overall week is still way better off than it was before I made this a ritual. If you're not into trash tv like I am, you can save your favorite podcasts, audible books or music and do the same thing! In fact, when it gets cooler out, I'm looking forward to doing this more outside (which is how this habit started to form last Fall).
The point is, combine something you love with something you want to improve.
So what's it gonna be for you?
