What to Eat this Season for Glowing Skin

Did you know that in a past life I was an Esthetician? Over the course of my career, I worked for plastic surgeons, dermatologists and was an educator for a popular skincare company training other estheticans around the country on products and services. I have always believed in high quality topicals, but what I learned to be true over time was that what you put IN your body is just as important as what you put ON it. Obviously, a combination of both clean, high quality topicals and a clean, high quality diet is the most potent way to maintain good skin health, and/or reverse the signs of aging. But, if you don't want to spend your resources on both I have options: put your focus on what you're eating, make sure to stay hydrated and get enough sleep. Not only will your skin thank you, but so will your energy, mood, and digestion!

But since we're talking about skin health, here's a list of some super delicious, seasonal produce that will keep your belly satisfied and your skin glowing!

~Beets: High in vitamin C to help protect your skin and allow it to heal.

~Broccoli: High in sulforaphane which is known to help protect the skin from sun damage, keeping us healthy and youthful.

~Tumeric: Contains powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits to help you glow from the inside out.

~Sweet Potatoes: High in beta-carotene and vitamin C which is also vital in the production of collagen.

~Pomegranates: Rich in antioxidants, helps to reduce inflammation in the body and high in fiber which is essential for digestive health. Check out my favorite method to "seed" a pomegranate, here!

~Carrots: Powerful source of beta-carotene which is a skin friendly nutrient that gets converted into vitamin A inside the body to help repair skin issues.

I have no doubt that when you start to incorporate these types of ingredients into your diet on a regular basis you WILL see results. Combine that with proper sleep, hydration, SPF and a moisturizer and you got yourself a pretty inexpensive but highly effective skincare regimen.
